ENERGY STRATEGY FOR HYPERSCALE DATA CENTERS AT KNIC NAM LONG THANH

The rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is creating a new wave of infrastructure demand worldwide. As computing capacity becomes increasingly essential to the digital economy, Data Centers require not only room for expansion, but also access to a large-scale, reliable and scalable energy platform capable of growing alongside their operations. Against this backdrop, power readiness is becoming a critical factor in determining the viability of Data Center locations, particularly for hyperscale campuses.

WHEN COMPUTING DEMAND DRIVES ENERGY DEMAND

Vietnam’s electricity demand continues to rise alongside industrialization, urbanization and digital transformation. In the first half of 2026, total system electricity output increased by 9.85% year-on-year, while peak demand exceeded 57,500 MW, according to official data released by Vietnam Electricity (EVN) on July 7, 2026.

For Data Centers, the pressure on power infrastructure is even greater. AI, cloud computing and large-scale digital platforms are driving higher computing density, creating energy requirements that extend well beyond initial operations and must accommodate continued expansion over the years ahead.

For hyperscale campuses, power infrastructure therefore needs to address both current requirements and long-term scalability. This principle is also embedded in the infrastructure planning of KNIC Nam Long Thanh.

FROM 800 MVA TOWARDS 2.5 GW

Positioned as one of KN Industrial City’s key high-tech clusters, KNIC Nam Long Thanh is planned to accommodate industries with specialized infrastructure requirements, including Semiconductors, AI, Data Centers and other advanced technology sectors.

Energy infrastructure has been considered from the planning stage to support both immediate requirements and long-term growth. Under the current development plan, KNIC Nam Long Thanh’s energy infrastructure includes:

  • 4 substations at 110 kV and 220 kV
  • Approximately 800 MVA of total capacity, with the potential to scale up to 2.5 GW
  • Up to 600 MW of rooftop solar
  • Approximately 60 MW of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

This framework is designed to establish a scalable energy platform for large technology projects while providing flexibility for phased investment and expansion.

For Data Centers, this scalability is particularly important. A project may begin with a defined level of capacity, but its energy requirements can increase substantially as server deployment, rack density and computing capacity expand. Power scalability therefore needs to be considered alongside land availability from the earliest stages of site selection.

BACKED BY KN HOLDINGS’ RENEWABLE ENERGY CAPABILITIES

KNIC Nam Long Thanh’s energy strategy also builds on KN Holdings’ experience in renewable energy development. The Corporation currently operates three solar power plants with a combined capacity of 200 MWp, generating approximately 318 million kWh of clean electricity annually.

KN Van Ninh Solar Power Plant, a 100 MWp renewable energy project of KN Holdings in Van Hung Commune, Van Ninh District, Khanh Hoa Province.

Renewable energy forms part of KN Holdings’ broader investment and operating ecosystem. This foundation enables KNIC to approach energy planning from a longer-term perspective, encompassing power capacity, scalability, energy storage and the progressive integration of green energy into industrial operations.

This direction also responds to the evolving requirements of global technology companies, as Data Center development increasingly extends beyond operational continuity to include energy efficiency, ESG performance and decarbonization pathways.
